The Media Arts & Communications Academy has been fully functional since August 2017. During the past 5 years students have had numerous opportunities to learn and gain hands on experience with their communication skills. Last year students worked alongside several prominent local businesses including the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce, iHeartMedia, Freedom Insurance Company, South Texas Emergency Care, The Pour Station and Taqueria just to name a few.

The real world experience consisted of having initial meetings with the clients, building presentations, obtaining feedback and eventually producing real state of the art commercials. In addition, MACA audio/video students are able to gain additional experience by running real studio cameras, teleprompter, anchoring, producing and directing presentations. Students contribute during the football games by running field cameras, running play backs, and directing entire games. They produce a 1-minute weather cast which airs before every kick-off.

MACA is not just a classroom, it is a real world production company with real producers and real clients.

The MACA not only offered students opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and practice their skills in a real-world setting, but also prepared students for the realities of a workspace. By understanding responsibilities, students have an advantage of being better prepared to navigate their career choice and degree programs they are pursuing.

THE HCISD MEDIA ARTS AND COMMUNICATIONS ACADEMY HAS GIVEN STUDENTS THE ADVANTAGE THEY WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL AND PREPARING THEM FOR

THE REAL WORLD.
